The Archdiocese of Manila warned Monday of a fake social media account impersonating Cardinal Jose Advincula, its new archbishop.
Fr. Reginald Malicdem, the archdiocese’s chancellor, said neither the Manila archdiocese nor the Capiz archdiocese maintain a Facebook page of the cardinal so far.
He noted that Advincula himself, who is set to assume his new post next month, does not have a Facebook account.
“Many people received an invitation to like and follow the page. It’s better to forewarn the public,” Malicdem told reporters.
The warning came a day after the archdiocese announced the activities for the installation of Advincula as its 33rd archbishop.
The celebrations will be held at the Manila Cathedral on June 24, the feast of St. John the Baptist.
In April, the archdiocese also cautioned the public against a fake solicitation letter asking donations for the supposed activities related to Advincula’s installation.
The letter said that a fundraising is being initiated for the vestments, crosier, pectoral cross, ring and other expenses for the ceremony.
“We inform everyone of this letter and we are not soliciting money for Cardinal Advincula’s installation,” the archdiocese said.
