Gospel: Mt 5:17-19
Do not think that I have come to annul the law and the prophets. I have not come to annul them, but to fulfill them. I tell you this: as long as heaven and earth last, not the smallest letter or dot in the law will change, until all is fulfilled. So then, whoever breaks the least important of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be the least in the kingdom of heaven. On the other hand, whoever obeys them, and teaches others to do the same, will be great in the kingdom of heaven.Reflections
The God who answers with fire is the true one The 450 prophets of Baal pray to him to cast fire upon their slaughtered bull. But fire does not rain down from the heavens. Elijah prays to Yahweh who casts fire upon his offering, proving to all that he is the one and only true God. Like King Ahab and Queen Jezebel who turned their backs on Yahweh, we, at times, challenge the Lord to prove his power or love for us. If you are truly loving, spare us from suffering. If you are truly almighty, crush the forces of evil. Lord, give us true faith in you.© Copyright Bible Diary 2018
