Lk 10:21-24
At that time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit and said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and made them known to the little ones. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. I have been given all things by my Father, so that no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and he to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
Then Jesus turned to his disciples and said to them privately, “Fortunate are you to see what you see, for I tell you that many prophets and kings would have liked to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
REFLECTION
What is the reason of this exuberant joy of Jesus? It is the return of the seventy-two disciples, very simple people. They were filled with joy for the miracles.
Jesus too shared his joy in the Holy Spirit. He realized the preference of the Father to reveal his will to the little ones. Then, he opened his soul in a very deep way. What do these words mean: “I have been given all things by my Father?” Truly, Jesus received from the Father the full mission of our salvation. The Father only knows him as his eternal Son, and gives him his own divinity and knowledge. Accordingly, the Son only knows God as his own Father. The people know Jesus just as a prophet. The mystery of his divine person is hidden. But Jesus is among us to reveal it step by step by his words, deeds, Death and Resurrection. The apostles are the first to hear this revelation which they communicate to us. Isn’t there a clue here to open our Christian souls to the Holy Trinity? Jesus, in the joy of the Spirit, praises the Father as his only eternal Son. Aren’t we happy to know these supreme Revelation? Yes, more than the prophets and kings who died in the hope of messianic times, we rejoice in the Church hearing of and believing in the Life of One God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
