Celebrating Seder
(In response to Alice Camille’s article of April 12, 2017)
Jerusalem, however blessed, is still
divided between Christian and Muslim
brethren. Not that it matters for as long
as there exists religious tolerance
and peace. Women and children may not be
allowed to partake of feasts where male guests
are feted because their presence is known
where the seder banquet originates
and therefore appreciated. Their hearts
know the elaborate feast emerged and
answers a child’s question why there is wine,
reading, stories, eating and singing when
all one can do is peep. Their time will come
to discern the elaboration is
to recall the exodus from Egypt
and Israel’s suffering for which God
worked His miracles. Likened to Mary’s
absence in the last supper when she was
at the foot of the cross for His last breath.
It does not matter who between Martha
and Mary served or broke the protocol
of their time; Jesus explained the desired
decorum not that the other suffered.
For both of them honored the Lord’s presence.
What lesson can be learned from this is that
a woman’s value in a man is deemed
not only for her visibility
but also for her womb whence males derive
