Ebanghelyo: Lc 9: 18-22
Minsan, mag-isang nagdarasal si Jesus at naroon din ang mga alagad. Tinanong niya sila: “Sino raw ako ayon sa sabi ng mga tao?” Sumagot sila: “Si Juan Bautista raw; may iba namang nagsasabing ikaw si Elias at may iba pang nagsasabi na isang propeta noong una ang nabuhay.” At sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila: “Ano naman ang sinasabi ninyo kung sino ako?” Sumagot si Pedro: “Ang Mesiyas ng Diyos.” At inutusan sila ni Jesus na huwag sabihin ito kaninuman. Sinabi nga ni Jesus: “Kailangang magtiis ng marami ang Anak ng Tao. Itatakwil nga siya ng mga Matatanda ng bayan, ng mga punong-pari at ng mga guro ng Batas. Papatayin siya at muling babangon sa ikatlong araw.”
Pagninilay
Natanong mo na ba sa isang taong malapit sa’yo kung ano o sino ka sa buhay niya? O baka ikaw naman ang natanong kung ano o sino ang isang taong malapit sa puso mo? Ang kasagutan sa ganitong tanong ay nakadepende sa antas at lalim ng pagkakakilanlan ng magkaibigan, mag-irog, magasawa, o kapamilya o kamaganak. May ilang makata na ang sagot sa ganitong tanong ay, “ikaw ang ilaw na nagbibigay tanglaw sa madilim na bahaging ito ng aking buhay.” Ayon sa isang awit naman ng Carpenters na pinamagatang ‘You’, “You are my heart and my soul my inspiration.” Ang sinagot ni San Pedro sa ganitong tanong ni Jesus ay isang pagbubunyag galing sa Diyos Ama. Winika niya, “si Jesus ang Mesiyas ng Diyos.” Ang ganitong pagkakakilanlan ay hindi basta-basta dahil ang Mesiyas ay ang tagapagligtas sa buong bayan ng Israel, na matagal ng inaabangan ng bayang hinirang. Maaring sabihin sa totoo lang, kulang pa ang karanasan at kaalaman ni San Pedro tungkol sa pagkatao ni Jesus at hindi rin sapat ang kanyang kaalaman sa Lumang Tipan upang sabihin na si Jesus na nga ang inaabangan Mesiyas ng mga Hudyo. Ang kaalamang ito ay tunay na galing sa Diyos.
