Ebanghelyo: Lc 6: 6-11
Sa iba namang Araw ng Pahinga, pumasok siya sa sinagoga at nagturo. May isang lalaki na hindi maigalaw ang kanang kamay. Pinagmamasdan siya ng mga guro ng Batas at mga Pariseo, at baka pagalingin ito ni Jesus sa Araw ng Pahinga at nang maisakdal nila siya. Ngunit alam ni Jesus ang kanilang iniisip kaya sinabi niya sa lalaking hindi maigalaw ang kamay: “Tumindig ka’t tumayo sa gitna.” Tumindig nga ito at tumayo roon. Sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila: “Matanong ko nga kayo: ano ang ipinahihintulot sa Araw ng Pahinga, gumawa ng mabuti o gumawa ng masama, magligtas ng buhay o pumatay?” Tiningnan niya silang lahat sa paligid at sinabi sa tao: “Iunat mo ang iyong kamay.” Ginawa niya ito at gumaling ang kanyang kamay. Galit na galit naman sila at magkakasamang nag-usap-usap kung ano ang magagawa nila kay Jesus.
Pagninilay
Maraming pagkakataon na mainit ang pagtatagpo ni Jesus sa mga guro ng Batas at mga Pariseo. Isa sa maaring dahilan ng tunggalian ay kung ano ang tamang pakikitungo sa Batas na nagmula pa kay Moises at sa mga ninuno ng mga Hudyo. Malinaw na para kay Jesus, mas mahalaga ang “spirit of the law” kaysa “letter of the law.” Ang mga guro ng Batas at mga Pariseo ay naging makitid ang pag-unawa sa maraming aspeto ng Batas. Literal na interpretasyon ang pagbasa ng batas at naka-ugat ito sa makataong perspektibo. Para kay Jesus, maliwanag ang layunin o diwa ng batas ay naka-ugat sa perspektibo ng Diyos. Samakatuwid, para kay Jesus maliwanag na ang mas mahalaga ay ang layunin ng Diyos sa batas, habang para sa mga guro ng Batas at Pariseo, nakadiin ang halaga ng Batas sa pagsunod at sa kailangan gawin ng tao sa Batas, na kung susuriing mabuti ay nagiging bilanggo na ang tao sa Batas. Bilang kaisa-isang Anak ng Diyos, mas nalalaman ni Jesus ang totoong diwa ng Batas na galing kay Moises at hindi Siya kailanman nabilanggo sa literal na interpretasyon nito.
