Ebanghelyo: Mateo 28:16-20
Pumunta naman sa Galilea ang Labingisang alagad, sa bundok na itinakda ni Jesus. Pagkakita nila sa kanya, sumamba sila, ngunit may nag-aalinlangan pa.
At nilapitan sila ni Jesus at sinabi: “Ibinigay sa akin ang buong kapangyarihan sa langit at sa lupa. Kaya humayo kayo at gawing mga alagad ang lahat ng bansa. Binyagan sila sa Ngalan ng Ama at ng Anak at ng Espiritu Santo, at turuan sila na sundin ang lahat ng iniutos ko sa inyo. Kasama ninyo ako sa lahat ng araw hanggang sa wakas ng panahon.”
Pagninilay
Today is the feast of a Communion- God, the God that communicates love. Inaanyayahan tayo ng liturhiya ngayon na pagnilayan ang komunikasyon ng pag-ibig na ito, na siyang tunay na pagkakakilanlan ng ating Diyos. Sa pamamagitan lamang ng tunay na pagmamahal tayo ay nakikilahok sa misteryo ng Diyos. The gospel reading for today’s liturgy offers us the only text in the New Testament that presents the three names together: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. There are so many texts that speak of the Three individually but only here that find the Three mentioned together. It is interesting to note that it is in the context of the command of baptism that the Three is mentioned. This indicates to us that in baptism we communicate the love of God; in baptism we participate in the mystery of God by loving. In the first reading, we see Moses inviting the Israelites to be greatful because Yahweh has chosen them: “Kailan ma’y walang diyos na nagtangkang dumating para ikuha ang kanyang sarili ng isang sambayanan…” This act of election out of love opens us to God’s mystery and defines who we are infront of God: “I will take you as my people and I will be your God” (Ex. 6:7). The most fundamental call to be a people of God is to be holy. This is expressed so many times in the Old Testament: “Be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy” (Lev. 19:2). This is interpreted in the Gospel of Matthew as: “Be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect” (Mt. 5:48). Yet Luke wants to be precise on by this saying: “Be merciful as your Father is merciful” (Lk. 6:36). Holiness can only be perfect in mercy and love. Through profound love for God and others we call God: “Abba, Father”.
