I Love
the rain for it reminds me of crying
the birds for the music they bring
a storm for its alarm
a snake for its charm
a friend that betrays
for the lesson of his ways
failure too
for it gets me through
thin crust leftovers
for their gap reminders
traffic jams
for the patience in the psalms
scars that do not disappear
for the memories that jeer and cheer
the silence of the night
for the murmurs of my heart
noisy children doing nonsense
for their shouting innocence
the day’s demise at every dusk
for dawn’s certainty I do not ask
the birds for our slaughter
the rain for its bow after.
